LA Galaxy vs. Chivas, 8p at Ballyhoo's (let's get together)

Not unlike Drew Carey, Ken Camp is a LA Galaxy supporter (actually a southern California native as well) who is learning to love all things Sounders. Ken and I will be at Ballyhoos this Thursday at 8p. watching Galaxy v. Chivas USA. Ken will be wearing his David Beckham jersey and I'll be wearing a Chivas of Guadalajara jersey, just to give Ken some grief. You should co… Continue

Cascadian National Soccer Team (can you help?)

With the talk last year of the US possibly playing the Catalonian National Team and all of the locals coming back talk for the new Sounders FC, it seemed interesting to put together a player pool and starting line-up for a Cascadian National Soccer Team. Cascadia in this case refers to players from Idaho, Alaska, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Here's more information on the… Continue

Follow Sounders v Wizards tonight online

USOpenCup.com will have a live blog here. And, you can watch the action live here. Also worth reading: Kansas City Wizards Heckling Tips If the Sounders make it through tonight, and I think they will, the next possible home game will be against FC Dallas on August 12 at Qwest. If FC Dallas loses and the Sounders win,… Continue

Concacaf posting full game videos on Youtube

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but on Concacaf's Youtube page, they're posting entire games. So far, they have both the continental fustal and womens U-20 championships up. I'm pretty soccer starved, unless its on basic cable or the internet, I'm out of luck. This this little treasure trove of free soccer is pretty cool to me. Here's the first half of the US vs. Trinidad and Tobago in the 2008 Womens U20 tournement. Second half is also… Continue

Seattle Sounders FC shirt day

Went out to get the paper this morning and found this on the front porch. Weeeeee! Actually, probably could have had it earlier, but I screwed up my order and had to talk with a team store rep to get it worked out. They didn't tell me that my order was screwed up until Tuesday, whic… Continue

Well, don't stop watching (are other sport fans lazy?)

Steve Goff points to this:
In fact, it seemed every time I looked away, something exciting happened. Is this a reason why soccer struggles with the American audience? It's not the sport's fault. We just don't know how to watch it. There are no whistles or predictable stoppages in play so you can do the things you're used to doing at a sporting event, like talking, texting, reading the program, checking out the crowd ... and don't even think of getting up for a beverage. Don't get me

Tying Seattle FC club membership to season tickets? Worst idea ever (because its not true)

I was wrong, it was just very hard to find out I was wrong. There's no direct link from the club's website to this ticketing website that points out that $125 is the association fee for non-season ticket holders. Well, good, I'm not worried anymore. Just, maybe, make it more clear. Ok, someone convince me I'm wrong. Continue

What is a Sounder? I am a Sounder. We are Sounders

cross posted at Olympia Time I was going to make this point in this post, but I decided to start a new one because I think this point stands on its own. There are plenty of actual definitions of "… Continue

Hurray for the TNT's "Indirect Kick"!

You won't find it listed on the left hand side of their sports page with the other sports blogs, but since early this year a handful of folks from the Tacoma News Tribune have been doing a soccer blog. Sweet. To me, soccer in the United States, more than any other sport, is based on internet fandom. Not much soccer on tv, so we go to the internet for our news. My recent example: I've been trying to find a decent baseball podcast outside of B… Continue

Seattle Sounders FC! (now the name of this group still makes sense)

Ok, I'll admit it. Of my worry over the name of the Seattle MLS team, 20 percent of it was that "Puget's Crew" would make very little sense for a team not named the Sounders. So there, its settled. Take a victory lap here. Continue

An argument for "Seattle Republic," the Major League Soccer team

A lot of discussion going on right now on the supposed three options for the new Seattle MLS name, much about the lack of Sounders on the list. The rest of the conversation is that the rest of the options are mostly incompressible or lackluster. The only acceptable name, Seattle FC, is actually pretty lame and unimaginative. It seems like an "if all else fails" sort of option. Seat… Continue

Why does baseball hate America? (or rather nations in general and Australia specifically)

Olympic qualifying for both soccer and baseball are both well underway, and each sport takes a very different approach to the summer games. Even though soccer rosters are limited to under 23-year-olds, at least the American roster is filled with top level pros, including now-fighting-for-their-life-in-the-Uefa-Cup Benefica's Freddie Adu. On the other hand, baseball rosters are being filled by low level minor league players. According to Baseball America, its hard to find a player from any MLB… Continue

Agentinia v. US on June 8 @ Qwest (never mind. but a WQC might happen)

Never mind, turns out the game will be in the Northeast, not the Northwest. GRrrrrrr.

Though, Qwest is still in the running for a World Cup qualifying match!

Ok, I'm connecting the dots here, butContinue

US v Mexico watch party? (Wednesday, February 6 @ 6p)

Tonight is USA vs. Sweden, but in a couple weeks we'll have Mexico on tap down in Houston. The game will be aired nationally on ESPN2, so it seems like a good excuse to get together again.

I have a couple of ideas for locations. For the sake of variety (and I think our sanity), O'Blarney's is out.

In its place, I propose:

a) El Guanaco is an El Salvadoran place downtown that I heard through a buddy shows soccer everyo… Continue

Bivings Report on Soccer, the internet sport

Bivings Report is usually a good place to take the pulse of internet politics. But, they noticed the online nature of soccer fandom recently. Well, not actually the blog nature, they seem to miss the strong online communities that surround American teams (such as the USL Sounders and the yet to be named Seattle MLS Team), but rather list online resources for international fandom. Continue

Good soccer columnist (Kelley), bad soccer columnist (Theil)

Good Steve Kelley:
This is the way it remains with much of the establishment media in this country. Rather than learn about the game, it makes jokes about rioting fans and nil-nil results. Guys in my business love to bash soccer, then wonder why soccer lovers in this country seem so defensive.

Roth said he wants the fans connected to the game, and to that end, he is intr
